More communities are benefiting from the Presidential Borehole Scheme and establishment of Village Business Units after the procurement of equipment to expedite the programme.
Additional equipment has been acquired with a view of expediting the programme which has proved to be a game changer in transforming communities through access to clean water.
Project implementers Prevail International, say they have set a target of establishing at least one thousand village business units per month after procuring more resources for the project.
Prevail International chairperson, Dr Paul Tungwarara told the ZBC News, “The containers consist of material we have imported which include solar panels and pumps. The programme is in full swing now and we are now establishing one thousand VBUs per month to ensure all 35 000 villages have access to clean water and water for VBUs.”
Chirimba Village in Seke District is testimony of how the project has transformed communities.
The villagers in ward 8, long plagued by persistent water challenges, are now celebrating a significant milestone with the successful sinking of a borehole in their community and at Madamombe Primary School.
The scheme is designed to provide communities with sustainable access to clean water through development of boreholes, which in turn will support the establishment of local business units.
Government is targeting to establish 35 000 village business units across the country under the Presidential Rural Development Programme.
