More than 600 orphans have benefited from the Zimbabwe Republic Police’s fundraising initiative, and the ZRP is optimistic that funds raised this year will go a long way in helping the vulnerable.
The cooperate social responsibility initiative is an annual event with proceeds going towards the Commissioner General of Police’s Welfare Fund which caters for more than 600 orphaned and disadvantaged children.
ZRP spokesperson, Commissioner Paul Nyathi says the event is growing bigger each year with yet another fun fare to be held in Bulawayo in December.
“We want to raise more funds as we aim to help more orphaned children. We have changed the venue to ensure that more people come through. This is an important event for us because we get to raise money to help orphans get an education,” he said.
Those who attended the event spoke on the importance of ubuntu.
“We pay to attend this event because we want to help the orphans,” said an attendee.
“Apart from the entertainment we have here it feels good to lend a helping hand,” added another.
“Its exciting to know that we are doing our part to put a smile on some children’s faces.”
The charity event, held annually aims to help orphaned children who are drawn from deceased members of the ZRP and others from vulnerable communities.
