Story by Owen Mandovha, Business Reporter

THE number of foreign exhibitors is expected to go up at this year’s Sanganai/ Hlanganani World Tourism Expo which is to be held in Bulawayo next month.

Preparations for the Sanganai/ Hlanganani World Tourism Expo set for Bulawayo next month are in full swing with organisers expecting increased participation in the wake of efforts to plug the gap created by the COVID-19 pandemic which ravaged the global industry over the last 4 years.

Tourism Business Council of Zimbabwe president, Mr Wengai Nhau said “We are all looking forward to the hosting of this year’s edition of the Sanganai/ Hlanganani World Tourism Expo where international exhibitors have shown huge interest this year, owing to our improving tourism infrastructure which is contributing to the fast-paced recovery of the industry.”

The Hospitality Association of Zimbabwe is upbeat about the impact of the expo towards the recovery of the tourism and hospitality sector.

“I have been involved with the expo for a long time and I can attest to how it will also be helping us to sell our country to the global market hence I expect this year’s edition to make a huge impact towards the recovery efforts,” said Hospitality Association of Zimbabwe president, Mr Emmanuel Fundira.

According to the latest United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) report, the global tourism industry has made impressive recovery strides of 84% in the post-COVID-19 era, surpassing the 60% target of pre-pandemic levels.
