TWO Mexican Navy ships, the Papaloapan and Huasteco, arrived at the port of Havana carrying nearly 1 200 tons of food aid for Cuban citizens.
The Papaloapan transported 1 078 tons of beans and powdered milk, while the Huasteco delivered 92 tons of beans and 23 tons of assorted food items, according to the Cuban state newspaper Granma.
Cuban Minister of Domestic Trade, Betsy Díaz, said the supplies will be immediately integrated into the national distribution system, prioritizing vulnerable groups across the country.
“This is the third time that Cuba has received supplies from the Mexican government and people,” Díaz stated, expressing gratitude to President of Mexico, the Mexican Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Navy, the Mexican Embassy in Cuba, as well as civil society and local communities who contributed to the aid.
Díaz highlighted that previous shipments, both by sea and air, have been distributed across provinces including Mayabeque, Artemisa, Havana, Isla de la Juventud, and Pinar del Río. She added that this aid comes at “a very complex time,” helping Cuba confront the effects of blockade measures imposed by the United States.
The humanitarian assistance underscores the longstanding cooperation between Mexico and Cuba and demonstrates Mexico’s continued support for Cuban citizens in need.
