GOVERNMENT is walking the talk on inclusive development, with a fish farming project being launched at Mundi-Mataga dam in Mberengwa District.
The people of the Mataga area in Mberengwa District have lauded the government for fulfilling its promises of empowering its citizens after becoming the latest community to receive 10, 000 fingerlings under the Presidential Fisheries Programme.
“We want to thank our leadership and President for remembering our community of Mberengwa. This project shows that the President walks the talk. The project will unlock new opportunities in the district,” said one of the community members.
Another added, “We are now looking forward to more co-operatives, which will benefit from this gesture.”
The Mundi-Mataga Project is expected to unlock new economic opportunities and improve food and nutrition security in the district.
Mberengwa East Constituency Legislator, Honorable Tasara Hungwe said, “As you know, we are in the process of establishing one of the biggest irrigation schemes in the province, the Chemakudo Irrigation Scheme,
in other words, I’m confident that these two projects will play a vital role in alleviating the standards of living in Mberengwa.”
“Our thrust as government is to Leave No Place and No One Behind while moving towards Vision 2030. We are on a drive to stock all dams to arrest the decline in fish populations and improve food security and unlock new economic opportunities in marginalised communities,” said Director of Fisheries and Aquaculture Resources Production, Mr Milton Makumbe.
The government’s initiative is also meant to capitalise on the country’s abundant water resources and favourable climatic conditions for aquaculture.
