ACCESS to healthcare in Makonde, Mashonaland West Province, is set to improve as construction progresses at Majaka Clinic, a project funded through the Constituency Development Fund (CDF).
Located in Chijaka area of Ward 19, the facility is expected to reduce travel distances to essential health services and ease pressure on existing centres. Villagers expressed optimism about the project’s impact on maternal and child healthcare.
“As a community, we are contributing labour and locally available materials towards the construction of this clinic, which is helping to instil a sense of ownership among us. We appreciate Makonde legislator Honourable Simbarashe Ziyambi for the effective utilisation of the Constituency Development Fund in addressing our priority needs,” local resident Mrs Fungisai Mhepo said.
“We would like to thank President Dr Emmerson Mnangagwa for ensuring that no one and no place is left behind. This clinic will greatly enhance access to health services, as many of us have been walking long distances to the nearest facilities,” another resident, Mr George Chidhakwa said.
“This development will make it easier for mothers to monitor their children’s vaccination schedules, while also bringing much-needed relief to pregnant women who previously had to travel far to access maternal health services,” a community member, Mr Chrispen Kiriyoni said.
Honourable Ziyambi highlighted how the Constituency Development Fund is complementing devolution funds in driving grassroots development.
“The Constituency Development Fund has enabled us to roll out critical projects, including the construction of three health facilities across Makonde, which will significantly improve access to healthcare services for our communities. These interventions are complementing devolution funds that have already seen the rehabilitation of roads, construction of classroom blocks, and improved water provision in the district.
“We are grateful to His Excellency the President Dr Mnangagwa for walking the talk on the policy of leaving no one and no place behind, as these developments are a clear testament to inclusive growth and rural transformation,” he said.
The project aligns with government’s Call-to-Action policy, which mobilises communities and public institutions to work collectively in advancing rural development and improving service delivery at the grassroots level.
