THE people of Makonde District have expressed support for the Constitutional Amendment Number 3 Bill, citing the need to ensure continuity of the national development trajectory under the Second Republic.

This comes as Parliament will be in Makonde and Zvimba on March 30, to gather public sentiments on the proposed Bill.

Ahead of the exercise, the ruling ZANU PF party is engaging party members, raising awareness on the Bill.

ZANU PF Central Committee member, Cde Valarie Makonza, said the proposed amendment will promote leadership stability and sustained development.

“We are witnessing real empowerment for the youths. We believe that the proposed Bill will ensure leadership stability, which guarantees continuity of national developmental projects.”

ZANU PF member, Ms Maggie Chidarikire, weighed in, saying ongoing awareness campaigns have helped clarify misconceptions surrounding aspects of the Bill.

“T”There were misconceptions on the issue of the Gender Commission, and now we are fully informed that the intention is to save resources, given that the two had the same dual roles.e welcome these engagements by the ruling party in raising awareness.”

Residents also highlighted ongoing development initiatives as evidence of progress under the current administration.

“At the moment, we are enjoying peace and a sense of economic stability. We can see programmes cascading down to the grassroots, including the sinking of boreholes, the establishment of Village Business Units, the Pfumvudza farming programme and the grading of our roads. These initiatives are directly benefiting ordinary people and improving our standards of living,” Makonde resident, Mr Peter Chigaba added.

ZANU PF Mashonaland West Provincial leadership implored party members to come in their numbers and defend the agreed position.

“As ZANU PF, we are guided by our Green Book, which is our party position. Therefore, as members, we are bound to follow our resolutions and defend them. Going against them is gross misconduct. We should be punctual and be at the venue on time to have our voices heard,” ZANU PF Mashonaland West Provincial Chairperson, Cde Mary Mliswa-Chikoka said.

This week, the ruling ZANU PF party in Mashonaland West Province is conducting inter-district meetings to sensitise its members on the Constitutional Amendment Number 3 Bill ahead of the nationwide public consultations by Parliament.
