A local foundation has spread the holiday cheer by distributing food hampers to the elderly in Bulawayo, complementing government’s ongoing efforts to support the vulnerable members of society.
As the festive season approaches, government’s commitment to improving the welfare of its citizens, especially the vulnerable is cascading to other organisations.
One such organisation is the Brian Samuriwo Foundation which has taken a significant step to alleviate the plight of the elderly in Bulawayo by distributing food hampers to over 300 senior citizens.
A beneficiary told the ZBC News, “I am overwhelmed with joy. These food hampers will provide us with the necessary sustenance to celebrate Christmas with our families. We thank the Foundation for their kindness and generosity.”
Another said, “We are truly grateful for the support we received today, this lightened up our festive mood.”
The Foundation’s initiative aligns with the government’s ongoing efforts to improve the lives of vulnerable citizens.
Zanu PF Bulawayo Secretary for Business Development, Cde Brian Samuriwo said, “We believe that it is our duty to support those who are most vulnerable in our society. By working together with the government and other organizations, we can make a lasting impact on the lives of many. We have been partnering with government in various initiatives such as providing free medical services to the vulnerable here because we realise that government alone cannot do it. The government has consistently emphasized the importance of social welfare programs and has encouraged private sector involvement in supporting those in need.”
Government is working with the private sector, and civil society to address the needs of the elderly through various social welfare programmes such as healthcare subsidies, and food assistance.
