NAMIBIA, Angola and Iran have once again called for the removal of illegal sanctions imposed on Zimbabwe during the High-Level Debate of the 79th session of United Nations General Assembly in New York.

Zimbabwe continues to reel under illegal sanctions imposed by the West at the turn of the millennium.

Despite the embargo, the Second Republic has put in place economic measures that include the National Development Strategy One to bust the illegal measures.

The country, however, continues to receive support from the international community, with Namibia President Nangolo Mbumba and Angolan President Joao Lourenco calling for the removal of the sanctions imposed on Zimbabwe.

“Economic hardships continue to affect the sister Republic of Cuba, in stark contrast to the ideals of inclusivity and the goal of leaving no one behind.

“Namibia calls for the end of the economic, financial, and commercial blockade against Cuba.

“Namibia also reiterates its call for the immediate and unconditional lifting of illegal sanctions against Zimbabwe, which hinders the country’s capacity to achieve Sustainable Development Goals,” said President Mbumba.

“I would like to take this opportunity to once again call for an end to the Embargo against Cuba and the sanctions on Zimbabwe the current chair of our regional economic community, SADC because they are unjust and inhuman as they increase the suffering of their people and greatly hinder the economic and social development of those countries,” reiterated President Lourenco.

Iran President Masoud Pezeshkian described the punitive measures as anti-progress.

In the past six years, Zimbabwe has registered huge investment flows including the mining and agriculture, along with a construction boom that has seen local companies involved in the rehabilitation of roads and the expansion of buildings that include the Robert Gabriel Mugabe International Airport, Hwange Units 7 and 8, construction of the New Parliament and the Museum of African Liberation among others.

The National Development Strategy One economic blueprint is anchored by 14 clusters whose objectives are to realise national development and improve lives.

The Second Republic has also gone ahead with renewing diplomatic ties with the international community and creating new ties with other sister republics.
