THE Zimbabwe national women’s cricket team, the Lady Chevrons are in India for a training camp which is part of preparations for the International Cricket Council T20 World Cup Africa Qualifier set for Uganda next month.

The Lady Chevrons are in the Asian country for a 17-day training camp ahead of regional qualifiers set for next month.

The technical department named four teenagers among the 16 players who are currently playing preparatory matches in India.

Under 19 captains Kelis Ndhlovu, her deputy Adel Zimunu, bowler Kudzai Chigora and 14-year-old Beloved Biza have been rewarded for good performances in domestic games.

“I am very happy to be here and being selected means that they saw something in us, so we need to continue working hard,” said Lady Chevron’s bowler, Adel Zimunhu.

“Just being in this environment is good for us because we are learning a lot from the senior players and I hope I can continue my development,” said bowler Kudzai Chigora.

Head coach, Gary Brent is looking to fine-tune his squad ahead of the qualifiers.

“Our skills have been decent, we are not far off the best cricketers, we just need to work more as a team, teamwork is one of the things we are looking to foster at this camp. We also need to play situations so these practice matches can help us achieve our objectives,” said Brent.

The Lady Chevrons who are playing practice matches against Indian Clubs will join Botswana, Kenya, Namibia, Nigeria, Rwanda, Tanzania and hosts Uganda in the regional qualifier.

The top two teams at the tournament will proceed to the final qualification stage, the global qualifier set for next year.
