DYNAMOS striker, Jairos Kasondo, is proving to be DeMbare’s unsung hero as the fading giants chase survival with crucial goals.
After scoring just seven goals in 23 matches, DeMbare have suddenly rediscovered their scoring touch, finding the back of the net six times in the last three league matches.
This has given hope to Dynamos, who are in deep trouble, languishing in 17th position and four points away from safety with eight games to go.
The fading giants are, however, not giving up, having won their last three matches on the trot to boost their survival chances.
Three matches ago, they were eight points adrift of safety, but they have reduced the gap to four in just three matches.
Since the technical department change from Saul Chaminuka to Kelvin Kaindu, DeMbare have found a new lease of life, and leading the charge is a forgotten striker, Jairos Kasondo, who was on target as Dynamos edged Green Fuel at the weekend.
After joining Dynamos at the start of the season, Kasondo barely had a chance to show his abilities under Lloyd ‘Mablanyo’ Chigowe, the man who signed him.
Saul Chaminuka was equally unimpressed and never gave Kasondo a chance.
But as they say, ‘Cometh the hour, cometh the man,’ and in came Kaindu, who saw something special in Kasondo, whose name means ‘God will awaken.’
He has been in the starting lineup during the Dynamos’ last two league encounters and scored the opening goals in those matches, giving his side a chance to survive relegation.
Kasondo might not have scored many, but his ability to open the floodgates is surely giving Dynamos the calmness to mount a proper survival strategy.
Against Kwekwe United, he scored Dynamos’ opening goal just after four minutes, and his team went on a rampage, winning three-nil.
He was at it again this Sunday against a stubborn Green Fuel when he found the back of the net just after the breather, and the match ended two-nil.
“I am just happy the coach has given me an opportunity, and I will fight for the team because my goals will mean nothing if we do not survive,” Kasondo said.
DeMbare are bracing for a real fight to survive the dreaded chop, and this Saturday, they need to summon the Chazunguza spirit against in-form and expensively assembled Scottland, who have won seven matches on the bounce.
Dynamos are still 17th, but crucially, they have moved up to 25 points, two behind Green Fuel, while Manica Diamonds, Yadah, and Triangle are three points away after their surge in the last three matches.
