PRESIDENT Emmerson Mnangagwa has fulfilled a pledge made last year by donating digital tablets to members of the Junior Parliament in Mashonaland Central Province, enhancing their capacity for research, advocacy, and leadership.
The handover ceremony, held this Wednesday, saw junior legislators, senators, and chiefs receive the ICT devices with excitement and gratitude, highlighting the government’s commitment to youth empowerment.
“Firstly, I want to thank the government led by His Excellency Dr Emmerson Mnangagwa for what he has done for us. This is not just a communication tool but a weapon for advocacy and fighting vices such as drug abuse, since I will equip me with knowledge to help empower the youth in this province. I am so delighted to receive this tablet, I am going to use it wisely for the development of my constituency,” Munashe Murengwa, the Mashonaland Central Junior Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution said.
Officiating at the event, Mashonaland Central Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution, Honourable Christopher Magomo, said the donation was a direct investment in the province’s youth.
“This event is about opportunity, empowerment, and building a prosperous Zimbabwe. The handover is a significant milestone, a direct investment in our human capital. Allow me to thank His the President, we are witnessing his direct investment in the young generation,” he said.
The Junior Parliament has become a vital platform for young people to air their views and contribute to national development.
A total of 34 representatives from schools and districts across Mashonaland Central are part of the provincial junior legislative structure.
The initiative underlines the government’s commitment to equipping youths with modern skills and tools to prepare them for future leadership roles.
