HIGH school students in Mashonaland West Province have commended the Chinhoyi University of Technology (CUT) for practically implementing the government’s Education 5.0 model, particularly focusing on innovation and industrialisation.
Scores of high school students from across Mashonaland West Province converged at the Chinhoyi University of Technology’s Open Day where they received free career guidance, while also getting an opportunity to explore the institution’s innovation hubs.
“I am happy that we have been allowed to explore what the university does but most importantly we are excited about the idea of innovation hubs where we can be afforded an opportunity to develop an idea,” said a student.
Another said, “The majority of us are just in school and studying only for the sake of it but without adequate knowledge of what we should do. Therefore, we appreciate this opportunity where we are equipped with detailed knowledge of our career paths.”
“Being on campus is a motivation enough for me because I have seen and felt a practical sense of belonging. I also loved that students can pitch their ideas and are allowed to innovate which is exactly what this country needs to economically develop,” added a student.
Addressing the students, Chinhoyi University of Technology Executive Dean in the School of Art and Design, Dr Verity Muzenda pledged the institution’s commitment towards implementing the Education 5.0 model, which is anchored in innovation and industrialisation.
“The significant part of this event is the set of displays showcasing innovation from various academic units within the institution. His Excellency, President Mnangagwa has superintendent the establishment of innovation hubs in all state universities knowing fully well that innovation, critical thinking, adaptive thinking, and human creative genius are key enablers for our country’s development trajectory.”
Meanwhile, the government introduced innovation hubs in tertiary institutions to maximise their potential in developing appropriate home-bred innovations and technologies for the local industrial sector.
