THE ICC Under-19 Men’s Cricket World Cup kicked-off this Thursday, with India getting off to a good start after a 6-wicket victory over USA at Queens Sports Club in Bulawayo.
The rains were a huge blow at Takashinga Cricket Club, as the match between co-hosts Zimbabwe and Scotland was abandoned without a ball being bowled due to wet ground conditions.
The Young Chevrons will try again when they are back at the crease on January 18 against England.
In Bulawayo, five-time champions India cruised to a 6-wicket victory over the USA.
They chased down the USA’s 107, as the rain affected the match. A special calculation via the DLS method set India’s target at 96, which they achieved in 17 overs, posting 99 for 4.
In Windhoek, the 2016 champions West Indies got off to a solid start, winning by 5 wickets over Tanzania. They chased down Tanzania’s target of 123 in 21 overs, posting 124.
Action continues this Friday as Pakistan face off against England at Takashinga Cricket Club.
In Windhoek, the defending champions Australia have a date with Ireland, and Afghanistan play South Africa.
The 16 teams will play 41 matches vying for a spot in the Super Six stage.
