THE Government has approved a Public–Private Partnership (PPP) arrangement to rehabilitate six units at Hwange Power Station, in a move expected to significantly boost the country’s electricity generation capacity.

In a Post Cabinet Media Briefing this Tuesday, the Minister of Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services, Dr Jenfan Muswere, said the rehabilitation works at Hwange Power Station units 1 and 6, which will be implemented under a Public Private Partnership arrangement between the Zimbabwe Power Company and Indian company, Jindal Private Limited, will boost power generation capacity, eventually minimising load shedding and ensuring reliable supplies.

The partnership meant to revive the six units at Hwange is part of broader measures being implemented by the second republic to strengthen the energy sector.

Government has also adopted measures targeting formalisation of the informal sector through a number of incentives.

Other key highlights from the briefing included the tour of Liberation and Heritage Sites in Angola, Tanzania, Zambia and Mozambique by Vice President Cde Kembo Mohadi.

Government noted that the regional tour generated comprehensive recommendations that emphasised policy, institutional and community based interventions to safeguard the country’s liberation legacy.
