FIREWORKS are expected in Maphisa, Matabeleland South Province, this Saturday as Bulawayo giants Highlanders take on Premier Soccer League champions Scottland in the Independence Cup final.

All is set for a thrilling encounter, with battle lines drawn between the two sides ahead of what promises to be an epic clash.

The two sides collide this Saturday in a high-stakes encounter meant to spice up Uhuru celebrations.

The two sides have contrasting league form as Scottland are in the top bracket, while Bosso are yet to win in the league after seven rounds of matches.

Highlanders fans are not worried about the statistics and are buoyant that their side will lift the Uhuru Cup.

“We are targeting nothing short of a victory. We have been drawing in the league, but that does not count in a cup final,” a Bosso fan said.

“A cup is anyone’s game, but we will be playing in front of our fans, so we need to win the game,” a Highlanders’ fan said.

“It is good that Highlanders are in the final. We are winning by two goals. We need a second cup,” a Bosso supporter said.

“A win for us will be good, as we need to put something in the cabinet. We want our fans to be there in numbers. It is a national event. We want to celebrate our milestone with something in our drawer, a Highlanders supporter said.

Highlanders head coach Benjani Mwaruwari prefers the underdog tag.

“Scottland is a good side. We have not been winning, but we will make sure we bag this one. We have not been scoring despite keeping the clean sheets. We will fine-tune and improve our precision,” he said.

A win will restore morale in the Bosso camp, who, despite being unbeaten in the league, are yet to bag maximum points.
