CASTLE Larger Premier Soccer League side ZPC Kariba are aiming to improve their finishing in front of goal after maintaining a compact and disciplined defence this season.
The team has built a reputation for a resilient back line that has proven difficult for opponents to break down.
In their last outing against Highlanders, Kauya Katuruturu had goalkeeper Future Sibanda as their hero of the day, pulling crucial saves to deny Highlanders maximum points.
The defence remained resolute, and Sibanda’s crucial saves were enough justification for his inclusion in the national team, which featured in the Four Nations Tournament in Botswana last month.
ZPC Kariba have been breached just four times in seven games this season, with their strikers hitting the net five times.
The lack of precision upfront is what the technical team is seized with.
“First things first, we do not have to concede. We have to keep a clean sheet. An average of a goal per game can win you games, but at the same time, we have been working with the strikers, and some of these guys are a work in progress. We are also concerned with the way we are attacking. It is a grey area which I think we need to keep on polishing, but we do not prioritise much on defending,” ZPC Kariba Head coach Newman Mashipe said.
Credit should go to the goalkeepers department guided by former Warriors shot stopper, Chenjerai Dube.
ZPC Kariba are middle table occupants after winning twice, drawing thrice and losing twice in seven matches.
