PREPARATIONS for the ruling FRELIMO Party’s National Conference have gathered momentum, with the party’s Zimbabwe chapter meeting in Harare this Saturday to deliberate on the forthcoming event scheduled for August in Mozambique.
The Zimbabwe chapter of FRELIMO’s National Executive convened to elect representatives who will attend the conference in Chimoio, Manica Province.
Scheduled to run from 21 to 23 August, the three-day gathering is expected to bring together more than 3 000 party cadres, business leaders, academics and youth representatives. Deliberations will focus on national challenges, internal cohesion and the party’s future direction.
Chairperson of the Zimbabwe FRELIMO Chapter, Cde Araujo Tomas Mafupe said unity and organisational strengthening would be central to the discussions.
“The FRELIMO National Cadres Conference is scheduled to take place in Chimoio, Manica Province, Mozambique, from 21 to 23 August. The three-day event will bring together more than 3 000 party cadres, business leaders, academics and youth representatives to reflect on national challenges and strengthen the party.
“Promoting unity, reviewing internal party processes and setting goals to address national issues will be central to discussions as we continue to strengthen internal cohesion.”
The conference will also provide an opportunity to assess Mozambique’s political, economic and socio-cultural landscape, while placing particular emphasis on youth mobilisation and membership growth.
Head of Delegation for the Zimbabwe Central Committee of FRELIMO, Cde Lidia Rita Geremias said a review of the party’s membership base would form part of the agenda.
“One of the key issues on the agenda is the membership census, which will involve a review of FRELIMO’s membership base to ensure the party’s working methods remain responsive to societal needs.
“Youth mobilisation is also critical, as young people are the future of the party. We must adapt to modern challenges while fostering a spirit of service and commitment to the people, particularly among delegates representing densely populated urban centres such as Maputo.”
Zimbabwe’s ruling party, ZANU PF, and FRELIMO remain sister parties linked by a shared liberation struggle heritage and longstanding regional solidarity.
The relationship continues to be strengthened through cooperation on political, cultural and developmental issues affecting the two neighbouring countries.
