High Court nullifies Tshabangu’s changes effected in Parliament

Story by Fungai Jachi, Courts Reporter

THE High Court has nullified changes made by Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) secretary general, Sengezo Tshabangu in Parliament without the approval of the opposition party.

CCC legislators who had been removed from their portfolios in Parliament have been reinstated by the High Court after an application made by CCC Acting President Professor Welshman Ncube challenging Tshabangu’s decision was granted.

Among the reinstated CCC officials are Chikanga legislator and leader of the opposition in Parliament, Lynette Karenyi-Kore and Chief Whip Edwin Mushoriwa.

In his ruling Wednesday, Justice Neville Wamambo noted that the changes made by Tshabangu cannot be recognised as they are unlawful and go against the Constitution of Zimbabwe.

Meanwhile, Professor Ncube has suspended Tshabangu with immediate effect pending a disciplinary hearing.

In a statement, CCC presidential spokesperson, Mr Kurauone Chihwayi said
Tshabangu’s actions were deemed to be in contravention of the party’s constitution.
