Gweru fugitive Peter Dube convicted of double murder and attempted murder

Story by Peter Chivhima

Gweru fugitive Peter Dube has been convicted on two counts of murder and two counts of attempted murder by the High Court after he fatally shot his second wife’s alleged lover and best friend in 2021 before fleeing the country.

Dube shot and killed Shelton Chiduku and Gamuchirai Mudungwe in April 2021.

He also shot his wife, Nyasha and her sister, Nyaradzo Nharingo, both of whom survived the attack.

Dube was convicted on Friday by High Court Judge, Justice Munamato Mutevedzi, who dismissed Dube’s bid to evade liability through a mental disorder defence, ruling that he acted with full intent when he fatally shot Chiduku and Mudungwe and left the Nharingo sisters for dead in a violent domestic dispute.

According to court documents, the violent episode was triggered by allegations of infidelity.

Dube accused one of the victims, Shelton Chiduku, of having an affair with his second wife, Nyasha Nharingo, and blamed another victim, Gamuchirai Mudungwe, for enabling the alleged affair.

Dube will be sentenced on November 26.
