Gweru fugitive murder suspect to stand trial soon

Story by Peter Chivhima

FUGITIVE Gweru businessman and murder suspect Peter Dube is expected in the country to stand trial, with extradition processes now at advanced stage.

In an interview with ZBC News in Harare this Tuesday, Zimbabwe Republic Police National Spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi said the process to ensure Dube, who was arrested in Ireland, is brought home to face trial, is on course.

“With regards to extraditing murder suspect Peter Dube from Ireland we can confirm that the processes are now at advanced stage. Peter Dube was being sought in connection to two murder cases which took place in Gweru in 2021, two of murder and two of attempted murder. We are working together with the National Prosecuting Authority and relevant stakeholders to bring him back so that he can stand trial back home,” he said.

Dube, who was arrested in Ireland last week, fled the country in 2021 after he fatally shot two people before injuring two others in Gweru after accusing his second wife for infidelity.

Meanwhile, the ZRP is investigating a case of murder in which Tafadzwa Staben aged 26 died after being attacked by a mob on allegations of theft on the 18th of this month in Beatrice.

In another case, police are investigating two murder cases in which Thuthukile Mathobela aged 19 and Sizwile Ncube aged 24 were found dead at Famona Business Centre in Inyathi after being attacked by unknown assailants.
