Gweru City Council boosts service delivery with new equipment procurement

Story by Courage Bushe

GWERU City Council has embraced the government’s development agenda after procuring ambulances, service delivery vehicles, and farm equipment, which were commissioned this Tuesday.

The development has been welcomed by Gweru residents.

“This is only but the beginning of greater things to come. The development shows that council and management are united for one purpose, which is improved service delivery,” a resident said.

“This is good for our city because we have been faced with a lot of challenges, including poor service delivery. We are hoping for change and better fortunes. This is commendable,” another said.

Gweru Mayor, Councillor Martin Chivhoko, said the new equipment will help spur development in the City of Progress.

“I want to thank the residents of the City of Gweru for paying their rates as they are playing their role in ensuring that we give them uncompromised service delivery. They are playing their part, and we will reciprocate by giving them quality service.”

The government has commended the Gweru City Council for procurement of the equipment, emphasising the importance of scaling up service delivery.

“The equipment I am commissioning today was procured using council’s revenue, totalling over US$234 000, which is commendable since residents deserve improved service delivery from the payments they make to council,” Midlands Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution Honourable Owen Ncube said.

The purchased equipment includes two ambulances, two single cab vehicles, a boom spray, a planter, and a drum mower at a total cost of US$234 000.
