Guard fails to account for company firearm

Story by Parvel Makona
A 32-year-old security guard has appeared in court in Harare facing theft of trust property charges after a service firearm allegedly went missing while under his custody.
Margo Munyaradzi, an employee of Trust Me Security, was arrested on May 4 following the incident at a local hotel.
According to court papers, Munyaradzi reported for a night shift armed with a Taurus pistol and five rounds of live ammunition but allegedly failed to hand over the firearm to the incoming relief officer, in breach of standard procedures.
Prosecutors say he also failed to provide a satisfactory explanation regarding the missing weapon to his superiors.
Munyaradzi was granted bail of US$100 and is expected to return to court on June 2.
