Govt reaffirms commitment to Bulawayo-Nkayi road rehabilitation

Story by Mhlomuli Ncube

WORKS in the rehabilitation of the Bulawayo-Nkayi Road are progressing well, with the government reiterating its commitment to the modernisation and development of key national infrastructure across the country.

The Bulawayo-Nkayi Road is one of the key social and economic routes in Matabeleland North Province, and the Second Republic says it is committed to seeing the completion of the ongoing rehabilitation works.

Road users have welcomed the commitment by the government as it had become a daunting task using the road.

“This road is very important to us and when we see such efforts by the government, it makes us happy. We want to thank the government for ensuring that this road is repaired. We applaud the government for continuing on such interventions, we use this road every week, and it is critical to us,’’ a motorist said.

With Nkayi Road not being the only route in dire need of attention, there is also focus and directing of resources to other roads in the province.

“While our roads in Matebeleland North are not in a good state, the government attempts to address the situation, I am also happy that Bitumen World and the Ministry have started pothole patching on the Victoria Falls road.  So we want to applaud all these efforts by the government,” Matabeleland North Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution, Honourable Richard Moyo said.

Last week, the government announced that the much-anticipated rehabilitation of the Beitbridge-Bulawayo- Victoria Falls Highway will commence next month, with the project expected to be completed in three years, under a public-private partnership.
