Govt prioritises human capital development

Story by Fungai Jachi

THE Government says human capital development remains a top priority as the country moves to invest in knowledgeable and innovative graduates.

Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services Minister, Dr Jenfan Muswere, who was guest of honour at the Christian College of Southern Africa (CCOSA) 28th graduation ceremony in Harare this Saturday, noted the importance of human capital development in national transformation.

Dr Muswere also challenged journalists to keep abreast with new trends in the industry and to tell the true Zimbabwean story.

“As we journey towards the country’s vision, the importance of journalists can not be over emphasised, and so it is important that we focus on human capital development. We need journalists who tell the true Zimbabwean story. We shall continue to ensure that journalists are adequately trained so that they fit into the new trends.”

CCOSA Board Chairperson Dr Catherine Tsikirayi said the institution aims to train journalists who are relevant in the 21st century.

“It is our aim to ensure that we do our part to churn out journalists who are relevant. Our focus is to have rigorous training so that we have well capacitated journalists.”

The graduates are excited about the journey ahead.

“It was hard, but we have made it and can not wait to make a difference in the industry.

“We have been challenged to tell the true Zimbabwean story, and so we shall do.

“I am ready to become the voice of the voiceless and make a difference,” said the graduands.

Of the 105 students who graduated with Diplomas in Journalism, 58 are female, and 47 are male.
