THE government has reaffirmed its commitment to prioritising the welfare of health professionals, emphasising that a motivated and well-supported workforce is essential for maintaining high standards of integrity and service delivery.

Through the Health Workforce Strategy, the government aims to enhance retention and ensure consistent payment of allowances, with particular focus on supporting village health workers.

This was revealed by the Deputy Minister of Health and Childcare, Sleiman Kwidini, at a nurses’ graduation ceremony held at Bulawayo’s Large City Hall this Friday.

“We are encouraging our nurses to remain focused, especially in maintaining the code of conduct and professional ethics, so that they deliver quality health services to our patients. We have had several cases where some of them refuse to be deployed in rural areas. As the government, we are working on modalities to ensure we retain health personnel in hard-to-reach areas. We are working on ensuring there are monetary and non-monetary incentives for them. This way, they can be motivated to be deployed in those remote areas,” he said.

The graduating nurses pledged ethical nursing practice that prioritises the well-being of patients.

The Mpilo Hospital 2025 graduation ceremony ran under the theme “Nurses: A Voice to Lead, Health for All.”
