GOROMONZI – THE Government’s ongoing efforts to improve education infrastructure received a major boost with the commissioning of Chirozva Primary School in Ward 15, Goromonzi District.
The development marks a significant milestone for the local community, which has long grappled with a lack of nearby educational facilities.
The newly commissioned school, initially established as a parent-led initiative in 2014, has seen substantial transformation following support from the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
The church’s intervention facilitated the construction of two modern classroom blocks, installation of a solar-powered borehole, and electrification of the school premises.
Speaking at the official commissioning ceremony, Mashonaland East Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution, Advocate Itayi Ndudzo, commended the church for its invaluable contribution to the education sector.
“Let me extend my heartfelt thanks to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints for your generosity and commitment to enhancing educational opportunities in our communities. Your support not only complements the efforts of the Second Republic but also reinforces the idea that, together, we can achieve remarkable progress,” said.
For many years, children in Chirozva and surrounding areas had to walk more than 10 kilometers to the nearest school, exposing them to numerous risks, including abuse and fatigue.
The establishment of Chirozva Primary has brought relief to both learners and parents.
“Today we are overjoyed by the commissioning of our school. It is a major milestone in promoting quality education, especially in resettlement areas like ours,” Chairperson of the School Development Committee (SDC), David Musungo said.
“In the past, we witnessed worrying cases of children being abused during their long walks to school,” a parent, Rosemary Tarwirana said.
“We sincerely thank the Second Republic for the progressive policies that are attracting development partners to our communities,” a parent, Nhamo Jeke said.
The Goromonzi District Schools Inspector, Mr Emmanuel Chigariro, praised the Latter-day Saints Church for its consistent support across the province.
“As the Ministry of Primary and Secondary education, this church has done a lot of projects in this province. If we continue to have partners like these, we will have adequate infrastructure as a district,” he said.
Church representative and President of the Latter-day Saints in Zimbabwe, Mr Blessing Sibesha, reaffirmed the church’s commitment to supporting education.
“As a church, we value education and believe in its power to shape the future. Today we celebrate what we have built together and together, we will go far,” said Mr Sibesha.
In addition to Chirozva Primary, the church is also constructing classroom blocks at Runyararo Primary and Secondary Schools in Caledonia and undertaking another major project in Marondera District.
