Govt boosts agriculture in Matabeleland North with critical equipment

THE government handed over agricultural equipment to seven administrative districts of Matabeleland North Province this Monday, a move that will enable the smooth conduct of all farming activities.

The equipment includes seven vehicles for Heads of Departments, solar kits with lithium batteries for agriculture extension officers, and eight tractors equipped with silage-making machinery for livestock feed production.

“We are happy when the government equips us like this, it makes all logistics in agriculture very smooth. Besides just receiving all this, I understand the importance of the work that lies ahead and want to thank the government,” a beneficiary said.

“This equipment comes at a critical moment when our agriculture is expanding in the province,” another added.

Matabeleland North Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution, Honourable Richard Moyo, advised on the importance of proper handling of the equipment.

“The Second Republic is about creating and expanding opportunities for everyone in the country. No one and no place will be left behind and I urge that we take care of this critical equipment we got from government.”

For an arid province, the equipment will be critical in ensuring farming activities are carried out smoothly.

The other critical sector is livestock production, with the tractors and silage-making equipment set to be critical in preparing for droughts when there are stock-feed shortages.
