ZIMBABWE is building transparency and trust with development partners in the utilisation of resources in line with National Development Strategy One (NDS1) aspirations.
It therefore emerged during the launch of the Development Projects Management Information System, Sector Working Groups and Global Partnerships for Economic Development Cooperation in Harare this Thursday, that the success of the partnerships depends on trust and confidence.
Attracting development partner support on project financing is a key focus of the Second Republic.
Development partners believe the system which monitors development support and areas of project financing is critical to increased support and cooperation with the government.
“This is a system that is ideal because it allows us to see what is being done by the development partners including the availing of funds and allocation of resources by such an initiative. There is that level of trust which is the hallmark of increased development,” said the EU Ambassador to Zimbabwe, His Excellency Jobst von Kirchmann.
The government is confident developing a tracking system will further facilitate the achievement of the NDS1 goals.
The Minister of Finance, Economic Development and Investment Promotion, Professor Mthuli Ncube said, “For some time, focus has been on the need to enhance growth systems within the country and we are more than confident such an initiative brings trust and confidence which is critical to development.”
The newly launched system also sets the foundation for increased cooperation between government and development partners.
It is also meant to ensure development cooperation is properly integrated and coordinated within the country’s planning and budgeting processes.
