ZANU PF issues stern warning on land barons

THE ruling party has issued a stern warning to land barons who are selling rural land to unsuspecting victims, masquerading under the ruling party’s banner.

ZANU PF Secretary General, Cde Obert Mpofu took time to speak out against land barons during celebrations at Hlanganani high school in Insuza, Matabeleland North at Zimbabwe’s assumption of the SADC Chairmanship during the August Summit.

He said, “We have heard that there are people who are selling land using the party’s name. We relocated people from here to make way for grazing land, but these land barons are selling land that we as government said is not for sale and this is criminal. Due action is going to be taken legally to ensure we bring these people to book.”

He further reprimanded the land barons who use the ruling party’s name for their illicit activities, citing that disciplinary action will be taken.

“These people are not only using the party’s name but they are name dropping and using the party’s senior officials names to get what they want, which is wrong and something will be done. We have engaged ZACC as well as the police towards this issue so that unsuspecting victims do not suffer and further.”

The warning comes at a time when the party is dealing with issues of land barons that are selling land illegally under the pretext of being party officials.
