GOVERNMENT is accelerating the delivery of infrastructure in schools, with Vhembe High School in Beitbridge, Matabeleland South province benefitting from the construction of a science laboratory.
Learners at Vhembe High School are confident the construction of a Laboratory at their School will improve the uptake of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) subjects.
“This Laboratory will really help us as learners because sometimes learning theory without seeing or practically doing what you are learning is a bit difficult to understand. As learners they are topics that need the practical side of the whole process for us to understand so we really believe the construction of this lab will help us to understand. After learning the theory, you would realize that during ZIMSEC Examinations you are required to do practicals that you never did leading us to fail. This laboratory will really help us in the uptake of STEM subjects.
Education authorities believe the laboratory will lay a good foundation for learners pursuing sciences.
“It creates innovation that will assist us in future as a community and the country at large,” Science educator of Vhembe High School Mrs Thapelo Sibanda said.
“Schools like Vhembe, which are constructing a senior Laboratory will enable our students to enrol in pure sciences. I am really convinced that the coming in of Vhembe Laboratory will boost our numbers in pure sciences,” Beitbridge District Schools Inspector, Mr Mbofhololo Muleya stated.
Government highlighted its maximum support in building and equipping laboratories.
“To support the full function of this Laboratory and the whole school in general, we have taken part of the Constituency Development Fund to drill the borehole that you see here and what is left is to solarise it,” Beitbridge West Legislator, Honourable Thusani Ndou noted.
“I can assure that if this laboratory is completed, we will get better results from this school,” Matabeleland South Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution, Honourable Albert Nguluvhe added.
The laboratories will foster hands-on learning, allowing students to bridge the gap between theoretical concepts and practice.
