The government has resumed rehabilitation works on the Golden Valley-Sanyati highway after the project experienced a temporary halt.
The rehabilitation of the ever-busy Golden Valley Sanyati highway is exciting the local community who have been lamenting of high transport fares and increased rate of accidents.
“We were charged over $10 for a distance of less than 50 kilometers. So this development will surely increase the number of transporters,” a villager said.
“We are no longer worried of road accidents caused by the poor state of the road. We are happy with the rate of progress and above all the local are benefiting in the form of employment,” another villager said.
Traditional leader Chief Samuel Neuso is upbeat completion of the highway facilitates economic growth in his community.
“We used to have many buses plying this route but today only two are pirating this route. This has really affected the transport sector but mostly importantly operating companies in this area have been equally affected,” he said.
Minister of State for Mashonaland West Provincial Affairs and Devolution Honourable Marian Chombo is impressed by the rate of progress.
“As a Province, we are grateful to the Second Republic for ensuring that no one and no place is left behind in national development. This highway will impact the GDP of both Mashonaland West and Midlands as it connects various businesses which include farming, mining processing and manufacturing,” said Honourable Minister Marian Chombo.
Rehabilitation of the country’s roads remains high on the government’s agenda with the disbursement of the Emergency Roads Rehabilitation Programme at the centre of the project’s implementation.
