ZIMBABWE’s national netball side, the Gems, has departed for Scotland to compete in the Celtic Cup, a key fixture on the international netball calendar set for the Emirates Arena in Glasgow from November 26 to 30.
The squad travels without goal attack Nicole Muzanenhamo, who withdrew following the death of her father. She has been replaced by seasoned shooter Ursula Ndlovu. Australia-based player Anita Luya linked up with the team earlier in the week.
This year’s edition brings together a strong line-up, including hosts Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland, Uganda and Namibia.
The Gems are aiming high, having previously clinched bronze in the tournament.
The tournament will follow a round-robin format, with each team playing the others once.
After the Celtic Cup, the Gems will head to Malawi in December to participate in the Africa Championships, further testing their skills against the continent’s best.
The team’s focus is on building momentum and gaining valuable experience as they prepare to qualify for the 2027 Netball World Cup in Australia.
