Story by Fungai Jachi, Courts Reporter

A former Croco Motors manager, who was convicted of fraud after stealing spares worth over a hundred million Zimbabwe dollars has been handed a six-year jail term.

Joseph Matinyarare, who was found guilty of fraud after a full trial, was however spared jail on condition he performs 840 hours of community service.

He was also ordered to pay back ZWL$92 million to Croco Motors.

This comes a few months after the Prosecutor General ordered forfeiture of his properties including houses on the belief that they were acquired using proceeds of crime.

He was jointly charged with Stephen Chafachaipa, who was the motor dealership’s Receiving Clerk at the time of the offence.

Chafachaipa was handed a four-year jail term which was suspended on condition he performs 490 hours of community service.
