HIGHLANDERS FC recorded their fifth consecutive draw after being held to a 0-0 stalemate by FC Platinum in a Castle Lager Premier Soccer League match at Barbourfields Stadium on Friday.
The closely contested encounter saw both sides fail to find a breakthrough, with Highlanders’ struggles in front of goal continuing to cost them valuable points.
Bosso dominated the first half with attacking intent but lacked precision in the final third, allowing FC Platinum to remain resolute and keep the scoreline unchanged going into the break.
The visitors returned stronger in the second half, with the introduction of McKinnon Mushore and Oscar Bhebhe improving their transitions. However, Highlanders goalkeeper Aron Ngwenya stood firm.
Ngwenya produced a crucial late save to deny FC Platinum, preserving the draw for the hosts.
Kudakwashe Mahachi also impressed in a new left-back role, but Highlanders’ scoring woes remain evident, having managed just three goals while conceding the same number this season.
Head coach Benjani Mwaruwari remained optimistic despite the result.
“We played a good side. FC Platinum are playing good football. It is unfortunate that we did not get the goals. We need to work on the final third,” he said.
FC Platinum coach Joel Luphahla acknowledged the difficulty of the fixture but welcomed the point.
“Barbourfields is always difficult. A point away from home is a good result, though we are under pressure to get wins,” he said.
The result leaves Highlanders on five points, while FC Platinum move to six after registering their third consecutive draw.
