ZIMBABWE’s renewable energy drive has received a major boost after Eureka Mine commenced the installation of a 16.2 megawatt solar power plant in Guruve, a development expected to enhance power supply for mining operations while contributing to the national grid.
Mashonaland Central Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution, Honourable Christopher Magomo, broke ground this Thursday to officially launch the project, which forms part of ongoing efforts to promote investment in clean and sustainable energy sources.
The first phase will see 8 400 solar panels installed, targeting the generation of 5.4 megawatts by July 2026.
Upon completion, Eureka Mine will utilise 8 megawatts for its operations, while the remaining 8 megawatts will be fed into the national grid through a net-metering system, contributing to Zimbabwe’s growing renewable energy capacity.
The government has been promoting investment in solar and other renewable energy projects as part of broader efforts to address electricity shortages and diversify the country’s energy mix.
