TV BRICS – Ethiopia is looking to replicate the success of its wheat programme in rice and edible oil production.
After a significant increase in wheat production over the past six years, the government is now focussing on these crops to improve food security, reduce imports, and create jobs.
This is reported by Fana Broadcasting Corporate (FBC), a partner of TV BRICS.
Ethiopia has a favourable climate for rice cultivation, and the crop is considered key in achieving the goals set out in the National Rice Strategy Plan.
Mandefro Nigussie, Chief Executive Officer at the Agricultural Transformation Agency of Ethiopia, emphasises the need for all actors in the agricultural sector to work together to achieve these goals.
This underscores Ethiopia’s commitment to achieving food self-sufficiency and reducing dependence on imports.
