Educationist and former ZACC commissioner Lakayana Duve dies at 81

THE nation has lost a respected educationist and former commissioner of the Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission (ZACC), Mr Lakayana Keith Chabaka Duve, popularly known as The Duke of Chibi, who passed away on Thursday at the age of 81.

Born on 23 August 1944 in Chivi, Mr Duve devoted his life to education, public service, and community development. He studied at Mukotosi Primary, Dadaya and Goromonzi High Schools before pursuing higher education that shaped his leadership path.

He began his career as a teacher, later serving as head at several schools, including Glen Norah 1 High in Harare, where he pioneered the construction of a protective durawall. He went on to head Victoria High in Masvingo and rose to become Regional Director of Education in Mashonaland Central.

At national level, Mr Duve held senior posts including Principal Inspector General in the Public Service, Press Secretary to the late Vice President Dr Simon Muzenda, and Acting Permanent Secretary. He also served as a commissioner with ZACC sat on the Mlezu Agricultural College Board, and lectured at the Zimbabwe Open University.

A philanthropist at heart, Mr Duve invested in families and communities, leaving a legacy of service and empowerment.

He is survived by five children and six grandchildren. Burial will take place on Sunday, 5 October 2025, at the Duve Homestead in Mukotosi, Chivi.
