Drax has no case to answer: Supreme Court

Story by Josephine Mugiyo, Diplomatic Correspondent

DRAX Consult SAGL has been cleared of any wrongdoing in the deal to supply medicines and surgical sundries to the National Pharmaceutical Company.

This comes after the Supreme Court dismissed an application by the National Pharmaceutical Company seeking nullification of a tender awarded to DRAX Consult SAGL in 2019 for the supply of medicines and surgical sundries.

The judgment to clear the DRAX Consult SAGL was handed down by Supreme Court judge, Justice George Chiweshe this Thursday.

The company has been cleared of any wrongdoing in a case where it was accused of having been fraudulently awarded a US$1 million tender.

The company’s lawyer, Mr Everson Samukange who spoke after his client’s case was dismissed said the contract caused an uproar on various media platforms with various interpretations being brought forward.

He said the judgment handed down this Thursday clears DRAX of any wrongdoing and all the allegations that were being levelled against the people involved.

“The judgment is against NATPHARM. The contract had an uproar in terms of publicity. Some people and several sections of the media had various interpretations,” he said.

“What it means is that all those allegations that were being levelled against the people involved were without basis, without foundation, they were just being made to smear their good standing and integrity.”

“In my view once the highest court in the land has pronounced that the contract is valid, it means all those views on the contrary cannot be taken seriously,” he added.

The latest development also clears the first family, which was dragged in the mud for suspected connections to Drax Consult SAGL country representative, Mr Delish Nguwaya through trumped-up charges.
