GANGARABWE Primary School in Hurungwe has undergone a major transformation, moving from makeshift pole-and-dagga structures to modern double-storey classroom blocks, thanks to a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) with the Minerals Marketing Corporation of Zimbabwe (MCCZ).
The project, costing nearly US$300 000, includes a six-classroom double-storey block with integrated ablution facilities, a standard classroom block, and a computer laboratory.
A second phase of the project will see the construction of an administration block, an Early Childhood Development (ECD) block, installation of a solar power system, expanded water infrastructure, and a security fence for the ECD area.
Speaking on the development, Mr Clever Muchinako, a teacher at the school, said, “Before these buildings, our children were learning in makeshift classrooms exposed to environmental hazards. This is a motivation for us as teachers to work hard and match this new standard.”
Mrs Johanna Matonhodze, Matonhodze Village Head, added, “This school was originally a satellite school serving children who could not walk eight kilometres to nearby schools. These new structures bridge the infrastructure gap and provide safer learning spaces.”
Government officials, including Special Advisor to the President,Dr Joram Gumbo, and the Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution for Mashonaland West, Honourable Marian Chombo commended the PPP model for enhancing rural development.
“What I have witnessed here is not merely the construction of school buildings it is the building of hope, dignity, and opportunity. The transformation from rudimentary shelters to a modern educational complex is a testament to what can be achieved when government, corporate partners, and communities unite,” said Dr Gumbo.
“We wanted to provide rural learners with a safe and dignified learning environment. Our work complements government’s Vision 2030 goals by ensuring that no child is left behind,” highlighted MCCZ Director, Mrs Thandiwe Mlobane.
The modern school infrastructure is a clear demonstration of the government’s commitment to inclusive development, providing learners with quality education closer to home and inspiring teachers and communities alike.
