Domestic tourism boost as flights to Kariba resume

Zimbabwe’s aviation industry development strategy is yielding results with a local airline, Fast Jet having launched flights to Kariba.                      

Malachite Travel and Tours director, Mr Cephas Shonhiwa said the latest developments will definitely boost arrivals.

“It is indeed a positive development for the sector and we are really excited. Many benefits will be derived so indeed anything positive is greatly appreciated,” said Sark Lodge director, Mr Mark Lawrence Culty.  

Zimbabwe Tourism Authority chief executive officer Ms Winne Muchanyuka noted that despite the effects of COVID-19 there are notable strides from the sector and more flights will boost viability, while Airports Company of Zimbabwe CEO, Mr Tawanda Gusha revealed the government’s plans to modernise Kariba airport in line with global standards, through a Public Private Partnership.

Zimbabwe’s tourism sector is on a recovery path, with the government’s open skies policy expected to increase local and external arrivals to resort and attraction areas.
