THE Doctor’s Without Borders (MSF) has announced the suspension of its medical activities in Gaza City, citing the worsening security situation amid the ongoing Israeli offensive.
In a statement, Monica Genya, MSF’s Association and Board Support Director, said the decision came after airstrikes and advancing tanks brought fighting dangerously close to the organisation’s facilities, making it impossible to continue providing vital medical services.
“The rapidly deteriorating security situation has left us with no choice but to halt operations in Gaza City. Our teams cannot work safely while civilians are under constant attack and our facilities are at risk,” Ms Genya said.
MSF has been at the forefront of delivering emergency medical care in Gaza, treating injuries from conflict and addressing critical needs in a population already burdened by limited health resources.
The suspension marks a significant setback for humanitarian efforts in the region, where hospitals are overwhelmed and medical supplies are running low.
The conflict in Gaza has intensified in recent weeks, with reports of heavy civilian casualties and mounting destruction of infrastructure.
