THE disbursement of top-dressing fertiliser to farmers under the Presidential Inputs Scheme has begun, with farmers able to access the commodity through Agritex Offices in their respective districts.

Importation of top dressing fertiliser has intensified with one of the biggest companies mandated by the government to supply the commodity expressing its readiness to bring in 30 thousand metric tonnes of Ammonium Nitrate(AN).

“In terms of numbers, we have already dispatched 3 000 metric tonnes to Grain Marketing Board (GMB) depots, we are moving volumes from different ports of entry and we intend to bring in 30 000 metric tonnes by the end of February.

“So far we have done 30 000 tonnes of compound fertiliser for the Presidential Inputs Scheme, so we are confident to meet our target,” FSG Spokesperson Mr Ngoni Kandeya said.

GMB confirmed that it is all system-go at their depots.

“We are receiving the AN and forwarding it to Agritex officers where farmers are accessing it through structures put in place by the government,” said GMB spokesperson Mr Nickson Kanyemba.

Loading of the top dressing was in full swing when the ZBC News visited some of the warehouses in Harare this Monday.

“We are currently busy loading trucks which are moving the top dressing to farmers so that they apply it on time,” added S & P logistic warehouse controller, Mr Josiah Josiah.

With the fertiliser now being dispatched to various GMB depots, farmers can approach their nearest Agritex Offices to access the AN within the recommended window period to apply it.
