Story by Peter Chivhima
A Harare man has approached the High Court seeking an order compelling former Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) leader Nelson Chamisa to account for the party’s finances before launching or registering any new political party.
In an application filed this Thursday, Mr Talent Rusere argues that Mr Chamisa should be barred from forming a new political organisation until there is a transparent handover and a comprehensive financial audit of CCC’s affairs.
Mr Rusere contends that the proposed audit should cover all party assets, including an armoured vehicle reportedly procured for Mr Chamisa in 2021, as well as the use of both state and donor funds.
According to the court papers, the applicant is demanding that the audit be independently certified by the Auditor-General and recognised by the current CCC leadership.
Mr Rusere is also seeking an order directing Mr Chamisa to file a verified financial report within 21 days, detailing how party funds were administered during his tenure.
The matter is now before the High Court for consideration.
