Colonel (Rtd) Tshinga Dube dies

ZANU PF Politburo member, Colonel (Rtd) Tshinga Dube has died.

He was 83.

His son, Vusa Dube confirmed to ZBC News, saying Cde Dube passed away Thursday evening at Materdei Hospital in Bulawayo after a long illness.

Born in Usher, Matobo district in 1941, Cde Dube became involved in the struggle for independence and joined ZAPU in the 1960s.

He received military training in 1972 in China, and was deployed into the arms procurement department of ZIPRA.

Cde Dube also operated in Tsholotsho at the height of the liberation struggle and is credited for laying the foundation for the Wankie Battle.

At independence, he was responsible for demobilisation and intergration of freedom fighters.

He then served in the army, holding several positions including being the chief executive officer of the Zimbabwe Defence Industries.

He is survived by his wife, Nomathemba Wendy Dube, several children and grand children.

Mounrners are gathered at 168 Shirley Road in Killarney, Bulawayo.
