The Government of Lesotho is confident the Geo Pomona waste management expertise will help end its dire solid waste situation in the capital Maseru, with a Memorandum of Understanding set to be signed.

The Geo Pomona delegation wrapped up their two-day visit to the Kingdom of Lesotho by meeting Prime Minister Right Honorable Samuel Matekane at State House in Maseru.

The delegation made technical presentations to the presidium which also included the Minister of Local Government on their waste to energy project and how it can be replicated in Maseru.

“Lesotho is grateful to President Emmerson Mnangagwa not only for showing us true leadership, but also showing willingness to cooperate and grow our economies. There is a huge opportunity for us to end our waste management crisis if we replicate the Geo Pomona project here in Lesotho. This project has opened an avenue for us to increase our trade ties,” said Lesotho’s Minister of Local Government, Mr Lebona Lephema.

The parties agreed to a memorandum of understanding, while Geo Pomona was advised to promptly come up with a proposal.

“We have agreed that within a month a memorandum of agreement must be signed while we are coming up with a technical proposal. The tour has been so successful,” noted Geo Pomona Waste Management Company Executive Chairperson, Dr Dilesh Nguwaya.

Head of the Zimbabwean delegation, Engineer Amos Marawa spoke on the successful tour.

“We are very satisfied with the tour as we saw their challenging situation with regards to waste. We have trust that Lesotho and Zimbabwe will continue to grow in terms of economic ties and the project has proved to be a game changer in waste management in the region,” he said.

The Geo Pomona project continues to attract interest from countries within the region, including Botswana and Madagascar, due to its positive impact in transforming waste management.
