Circular economy key in reducing gas emissions

The Minister of Environment, Climate and Wildlife Dr Sithembiso Nyoni says the transition to a circular economy is key in reducing global greenhouse gas emissions which have had a significant burden on the environment ,climate, biodiversity, and pollution.

Minister Nyoni who is also the Head of delegation to the ongoing United Nations Conference on Climate Change (COP29) in Baku, Azerbaijan made the remarks during a ministerial panel discussion on Circular Economy in Tackling Climate Change.

She highlighted some of the success stories that Zimbabwe has achieved including public private partnerships with the likes of Geo Pomona in the waste to energy model.

A circular economy focuses on minimiding waste ,promoting sustainable use of natural resources, through smarter product design, longer use, recycling as well as regenerating nature.

For Zimbabwe , the transition to a circular economy has birthed a sustainable and resilient socio economic transformation, while also creating employment opportunities for communities.
