THE Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints has partnered with the government in the construction of two schools in Goromonzi District.
Construction of Runyarararo Peace Primary and Secondary schools in Caledonia, Goromonzi District, is set to begin soon following the project handover to contractors this Tuesday.
Addressing parents at the site handover, the Minister of State for Mashonaland East Provincial Affairs and Devolution, Honourable Itayi Ndudzo commended the church for supporting education initiatives by the government.
“We thank President Emmerson Mnangagwa for his open door policy. We are now seeing partners such as Latter Day Saints coming to give the much needed support. To all the people in Caledonia, please let us support the construction of the new schools,” Advocate Ndudzo said.
“We commend the public-private partnership which has made this project possible as we seek to provide quality education to our children,” the Provincial Education Director for Mashonaland East, Mrs Anatolia Ncube said.
Construction of the two government schools is set to alleviate challenges as children were travelling long distances.
“Our children have been travelling long distances with some ending up dropping out of school which was concerning,” a parent said.
“We thank the Second Republic whose policies have made this possible as it has created a conducive environment,” a community member said.
“This area had a serious shortage of schools, so we are confident this will ease that burden,” a resident said.
The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints has since constructed a school in Ward 15, Goromonzi, and a clinic in Marondera.
