ZIMBABWE joined the world in welcoming the Chinese Lunar New Year at a vibrant carnival held in the capital, with Chinese Ambassador to Zimbabwe, H.E. Zhou Ding, highlighting the enduring partnership between the two countries.
Speaking at the event, which drew government officials, diplomats, business leaders and members of the local Chinese community, Ambassador Zhou Ding praised Zimbabwe for its support in organising the celebration.
“It is a great pleasure to join you in celebrating the Chinese Lunar New Year in Harare. I extend my sincere gratitude to the Zimbabwean Government agencies for their unwavering support for this significant celebration. My special thanks go to the local Chinese community for organising this wonderful event, which brings us joy and blessings,” Ambassador Zhou Ding said.
The ambassador reflected on 2025 as a year of remarkable achievements in China-Zimbabwe relations, citing completed projects financed by China and investments by Chinese private sector partners. He added that cultural and people-to-people exchanges between the two countries had been “remarkably vibrant and robust,” contributing to Zimbabwe’s socioeconomic development.
“The Lunar New Year is a time for family reunions, expressing goodwill, and planning for the future. Its core values resonate deeply with the spirit of Ubuntu, a philosophy cherished by our Zimbabwean friends,” he said.
Looking ahead to 2026, Ambassador Zhou Ding reaffirmed China’s commitment to strengthening bilateral relations under the “China-Africa Year of People-to-People Exchanges.”
“With the Year of the Horse just around the corner, I reaffirm China’s commitment to advancing our all-weather partnership. I look forward to working closely with our Zimbabwean friends and the Chinese community here to further strengthen the fraternal bonds between our two great nations,” he said.
The carnival also featured cultural performances, traditional dances, and exhibitions celebrating Chinese heritage, reinforcing the strong people-to-people ties between China and Zimbabwe.
