THE government has reaffirmed its commitment to building a brighter future for the nation’s children, recognising them as the true custodians of Zimbabwe’s legacy.

This came out during this year’s Children’s Independence Party held ahead of the 45th Independence Celebrations at Nyamuroro High School at Mutora Business Centre in Nembudziya, Gokwe.

As per tradition, President Emmerson Mnangagwa and First Lady Dr Auxillia Mnangagwa hosted the vibrant celebration on the eve of the country’s Independence Celebrations.

The event was punctuated by scintillating performances as children from all the country’s 10 provinces left guests mesmerised before the young and energetic were rewarded handsomely.

Addressing the students, Minister of Primary and Secondary Education, Dr Torerai Moyo said children are the custodians of the country’s legacy.

“Today, through the Children’s Party, we are not only celebrating Zimbabwe’s freedom and sovereignty, but also reaffirming our unwavering commitment to building a brighter future for our children, who are the true custodians of our nation’s legacy. These outstanding boys and girls represent the diverse hopes, talents, and dreams of millions of children across our beautiful nation,” he said.

Zimbabwe has made great strides in the education sector through the installation of infrastructure, rolling out of the Presidential Internet Scheme as well as ensuring the implementation of the Heritage-based curriculum.

Junior President Pious Nleya is thankful for government’s interventions in ensuring education is accessible to all and sundry.

“It is an opportunity for us to celebrate as Zimbabweans. Zimbabwe requires brave hard-working people for its development and no one will build it for us,” he said.

The students also had gifts for the Head of State and words of encouragement to their peers.

The children’s party saw more than 3 000 students taking part in the festivities as part of the country’s 45th Independence Celebrations being held under the theme: Zim@45, Devolve and Develop Together Towards Vision 2030.
